More Reasons to Celebrate The UAE National Day

December is around the corner, and while the whole world is waiting for the festive season, Emirates is getting ready for the UAE National Day. The Emirati National Day falls on the 2nd of December every year and it commemorates the federal unification of the states of the modern-day UAE that happened on 2 December 1971. The day is celebrated across the 7 emirates with fireworks, festivals, activities, and UAE national day gifts. Dubai Wins the Bid To Host Expo 2020

In 2013, Dubai has been announced as the winner to host the Expo 2020 event during the 154th Bureau International des Expositions defeating bids from Turkey’s Izmir, Brazil’s Sao Paulo, and Russia’s Yekaterinburg. This makes Dubai the first Arab and Middle Eastern city to host the expo in 2020.

Becoming The Most Generous Country in the World

For the second year in a row, the UAE was named as the most generous country in the world In 2016. The country contributed 1.26% of its gross national income to development aid followed by Sweden at 1.09 percent and Luxembourg at 1.06 percent.

Appointing a Minister for happiness

The UAE appointed its first minister of happiness In 2016, a female named Ohood Bint Khalfan Al Roumi. The ministry is responsible for promoting and sustaining happiness throughout the country.

Launching of the UAE Space Agency

The UAE officially established its first Space Agency in 2014 with the goal of launching a probe to Mars. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai announced the project in a tweet stating that the country is planning to send the first Arab spaceship to Mars by 2021. In 2016, a deal with NASA has been signed between the Gulf state and NASA to work together to achieve the goal of reaching Mars. 

Also in October 2019, the 1st Emirati astronaut has landed in the space. Hazzaa Ali Almansoori a 35-year-old former military pilot blasted off in a Russian Soyuz-MS 15 spacecraft and spent 8 days carrying out scientific experiments.
