5 Tips to Keep Your Flower Gift Longer!

Receiving a flower gift from a loved one is sweet. Flowers have this powerful ability to convey elegant  emotions in different situations. Watching flowers dry out over time is another metaphor of “everything is temporary.” In this article, we will let you know some tips and tricks on keeping your flower gift bouquet fresh and last longer than usual so that  you can enjoy their beauty the longest possible.

Make sure to follow these easy, simple instructions to enjoy your fresh, colorful blooms for the longest time possible:

1- Trimming the stems

Trimming the stems

Start by unwrapping your flower gift bouquet and cutting every flower’s stems at a 45-degree angle using sharp scissors or shears. Make sure to trim the stems every couple of days the same way you did the first time. Freshly cut stems easily absorb water and minerals.

2- Adding water

Adding water

Add clean water to your vase and place the flowers in it. Change the water daily with fresh, cold water. Not changing the water periodically will cause bacteria development. Make sure the water is clean and looks good enough to drink.

3- Feeding the blooms

Flowers, too, need to eat! You can get a pack of flower food from your nearest florist or make it yourself. Add a couple of drops of bleach and a pinch of sugar to the water if you couldn’t get ready-made flower food, and that will help keep your flowers lasting longer.

4- Keeping your flower gift on the right spot

There is a misconception that you need to place your flowers in a place where direct sunlight can reach them. That is not correct; keep your flowers in indirect sunlight to keep them fresh and alive.

5- Removing the expired flowers

The lifespan of different plans vary. Even in the same batch, some flowers and blooms live longer than others. Yet having damaged flowers near to fresh ones will cause cross contamination. As blooms expire or dry out, pull them out from your flower bouquet to keep the other flowers fresher and last longer.
